The best part of waking up is… well it’s a god damned owl. Would you look at that. Owls and coffee are two of my top ten - maybe top five - all time favorite things (see also: red wine, cute dresses.. i know, deep), so this shirt is basically made for me. And it’s on Threadless, so you can take a look at some of the other coffee-slash-owl lovers who it was basically made for too, below. Design by Marco.

Handmade from bamboo, this owl wall clock strikes me as kind of retro-fabulous and would fit perfectly in the home of an unhappy hipster. Fawn&Forest, the site where it’s sold, bills it as great for a nursery or baby shower (gift), but this owl expert sorta thinks no baby is required.

This owl-theme loo is from an Apartment Therapy house tour, specifically, Carrie’s Calm, Cool and Collected house tour, a look around a nicely-decorated 900 square foot rental in Los Feliz, CA. Apartment Therapy’s house tours are some of my favorite forms of structured procrastination (the marginally useful activities you participate in while you’re intended to be doing more useful activities).

AOL launches Owl beta. ‘Cause, obviously, Owelle was taken. Owl’s premise is that “each of us is an area packed with knowledge.” An area? Wonder how many times that sentence went ‘round and ‘round the product/marketing/PR team before they ended up with “area.” Hopefully that sentence is also still in beta.

Mateusz Kolek is the graphic artist behind this Polish-speaking owl, who, along with its fellow woodland creatures fox, bunny and deer, seems to be fleeing some giant, shiny land-anemone. The title of this print is “Evil Comes Out of the Forest.”

He also has a very cool owl t-shirt, pictured on the headless man below.

The New York Times reports that Harold Bell, creator of the Robin Hood-esque environmentalist owl who has since the 70’s encouraged folks to “Give A Hoot, Don’t Pollute,” died at his home in Los Angeles on Friday at the age of 90.

Last night I had the chance to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, which, lucky me, included a bonus backstage tour. Radio City is pretty impressive whether you’re a tourist or New Yorker, and one of my favorite parts of the appropriately-named Christmas Spectacular was a brief history of the venue since it opened on December 27, 1932. Because Radio City’s interior was deemed a city landmark in 1978, it’s all pretty retro-fabulous. Inexplicably, this owl lives just above the stage manager’s station full of vintage gears and gadgets stage right. Your guess is as good as mine.
